INTRO: Defining the New World Order

As stated previously, the New World Order is Lucifer's last attempt to destroy the world that Yahweh Elohim created and to force the world to worship himself in the process. Although this term, New World Order, is relatively new, it has age-old roots, whose purpose was to unite the world under one central government (a la Babel), in order to bring revolution against Yahweh Elohim and worship to Lucifer.

Below is a list of several political figures who have espoused a new world order, or new international order, as some call it, in recent years. Here is how they define it.

____ISLAMIC NEW WORLD ORDER____

The Western World is not the only group of peoples that are pushing for the formation of a New World Order.  This concept is also been seen within the Islamic community worldwide.

PROLOGUE: THE WAR FOR THE WORLD

We are at war. A war not fought between countries with militaries and weapons in pursuit of land, oil, or money but a spiritual war fought for the souls of men, their allegiance and worship. It is an ancient battle that has been waged since before the creation of our world but yet shapes and effects our modern day. It is a conflict in which victory has already been decided by those outside of time. To those of us constrained by space and time the battle that has been increasing steadily over the millennia and is at it's greatest tipping point in our world today. It is a war between the forces of good -- Yahweh Elohim, the Creator God of the Bible and the forces of darkness led by who many know as Satan, or as some of his followers refer to him as Lucifer, the Light Bearer. What follows in these subsequent entries is a retelling of this story with particular emphasis of its influence on our world today.
**************************************************
The story begins outside of time before the creation of our world. Yahweh Elohim created the hosts of heaven and one of these angelic beings in particular was named Lucifer, who led the congregations. Yet at some point this was not enough, Lucifer wanted to be worshipped just as Yahweh Elohim was worshipped and he would stop at nothing to accomplish his goal, including rebellion and revolt. The war had begun. Yet before Lucifer's revolution could be accomplished, Yahweh Elohim cast Lucifer and his soldiers out of heaven, thereby discouraging Lucifer's plan to set himself up as the Most High. That is, at least in the heavenly realm...
**************************************************
[Genesis 1-3]
On a separate front, Yahweh Elohim had created our earth in which mankind, who would bear His image, would take care of and steward this world. Lucifer having lost the revolution in the heavens, saw this as an opportunity to rethink his strategy to usurp Yahweh Elohim's power, at least on this new world, and thereby set himself up to be worshipped. So he set out to start another revolution against Yahweh Elohim, only this time with mankind as his army rather than the angels of heaven. Lucifer deceived the man and woman who fell prey to his scheme and essentially ceded stewardship of the earth to Lucifer, giving him the title "prince of the power of the air". In reaction to "the Fall" of mankind from his position of authority, Yahweh Elohim pronounced judgment on both the man, the woman, and Lucifer. With this judgment came a promise of ultimate victory against Lucifier that would be accomplished through mankind, namely one person in particular -- Jesus Christ, Yahweh Elohim incarnate. In spite of this promise, Lucifer continued his ill-fated revolution against Yahweh Elohim.
**************************************************
[Genesis 6]
Lucifer's first plan of attack as Prince of this World was to set out to prevent God's promise of ultimate victory through the man Jesus Christ, who would bring redemption and renewal to mankind and creation, and ultimately, take back control of this world for Yahweh Elohim. Death and sin had already been introduced through mankind's choice in the Garden, and through successive generations had been multiplying exponentially, essentially causing mankind to destroy itself through violence and wickedness. But in order to thwart Yahweh Elohim's promise, Lucifer still had to find a way to prevent rescue and restoration of mankind and creation through the incarnation of Yahweh Elohim. Enter the Sons of God. Otherwise known as Fallen Angels, these dimensional beings visited this world and took for themselves human women [See Genesis 6, Jude 6, Enoch 6,7]. This unnatural union eventually brought forth a world of beings and creatures, who were no longer pure blooded humans, but a new species of hybrids [Jasher 4:18], save one man and his family. That's man's name -- Noah. It was through this man and his family, that Yahweh Elohim would save mankind and creation from His judgment and wrath which he sent in the form of a Great Flood in order to rid the world of this ever-increasing evil and to prevent mankind from being corrupted fully [See Jubilees 5:1-5; 7:21-25]. Upon its destruction, the world was renewed and Yahweh Elohim made a covenant with Noah to never again destroy the earth through flood. Lucifer's strategy to corrupt the bloodline of mankind had been thwarted. Mankind was given a fresh start although throughout the early Biblical Era there were instances of surviving Nephilim [See, Numbers 13:32-33].
**************************************************
[Genesis 10-11]
With Lucifer's first strategy having failed, he moved on to a different tactic. It wasn't long before mankind was once again being affected by the power sin that entered the world through Adam and Eve's disobedience. Mankind put themselves first at the expense of their Creator. This was a perfect atmosphere in which to raise up a leader, Nimrod, who would persuade the peoples to build a city with a tower that reached the heavens and institute a governmental system. Through these means, Lucifer could control the whole world and thereby set himself up as the object of their worship. Yet, before this plan could be fully completed, Yahweh Elohim confused the languages of the peoples and the building of the city stopped and the peoples dispersed. Lucifer's plan to have a one-world governmental system was temporarily ended.
**************************************************
Even though Lucifer was estopped from ruling the world through the government of Babel, it did not stop him from influencing other governments throughout history. Many governments, such as Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, and Rome, were influenced or even controlled by false belief and religion systems. Passages found in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 provide insight into how Lucifer was the real spirit/force behind the governments of Babylon and Tyre. Further insight is given about Lucifer's desire to be worshipped and his seeming control over the cities of the world through the story of Jesus' temptation at the begining of His earthly ministry (Matthew 4; Luke 4). With these biblical examples, as well as many other secular examples, such as the Roman Empire and Nazi Germany, we begin to see how Lucifer has tried to infiltrate the governments of this world to fulfill his agenda. Lucifer continues this strategy even up to the present day.
**************************************************
[Revelation 13]
The Bible tells us that Lucifer will take one last shot at thwarting Yahweh Elohim's promise of restoration by inciting mankind to revolt against Yahweh Elohim and in the process destroying them (but not before he forces their worship of himself). In Revelation 13 we see the rise of a beast who is given power of all peoples of the world by Lucifer, referred to as the Dragon. There are some who believe that this all-encompassing power given to the beast is already being formed under the guise of the New World Order. The rest of this report will provide information and insight into how the things that are being played out in the world today will help usher in a New World Order ultimately controlled by Lucifer. As alluded to earlier, this final battle between Lucifer and Yahweh Elohim will end in victory for Yahweh Elohim and His people.

TOPIC: Deadly Santas and the Destruction of Christmas

**********

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D95ADD7G0

Time2WakeUp: These are just two examples of the assault and destruction that has been happening to the Christmas season over the last few decades. No doubt, these two families will never experience the fullness of joy that the Christmas season can bring. These two events are just two of many ploys that Satan uses to destroy any traditional sense of Christmas time. Another tactic...commercialism. The true meaning of Christmas lies beyond Santa Clauses and gifts and family gatherings. It is a time to remember the gift of Jesus Christ and what He has done for those who believe.

NOTES: The Coming Black Pope...

Time2WakeUp: This story is creating a lot of speculation because people are referring to St. Malachy's 16th century Prophecy of the Popes.  This prophecy foretells that the Last Pope, Peter the Roman, will coincide with the destruction of Rome. Pope Benedict XVI is the last pope before Peter the Roman. So it stands to reason that if he were to resign in April, the next pope would be the last pope.  For more information on this topic check out Petrus Romanus from Raiders News Network.

NOTES: Norway's 911

The Norwegian man charged Saturday with a pair of attacks in Oslo that killed at least 92 people left behind a detailed manifesto outlining his preparations and calling for a Christian war to defend Europe against the threat of Muslim domination, according to Norwegian and American officials familiar with the investigation.

As stunned Norwegians grappled with the deadliest attack in the country since World War II, a portrait began to emerge of the suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, 32.The police identified him as a right-wing fundamentalist Christian, while acquaintances described him as a gun-loving Norwegian obsessed with what he saw as the threats of multiculturalism and Muslim immigration.

“We are not sure whether he was alone or had help,” a police official, Roger Andresen, said at a televised news conference. “What we know is that he is right wing and a Christian fundamentalist.”

In the 1,500-page manifesto, posted on the Web hours before the attacks, Mr. Breivik recorded a day-by-day diary of months of planning for the attacks, and claimed to be part of a small group that intended to “seize political and military control of Western European countries and implement a cultural conservative political agenda.”

He predicted a conflagration that would kill or injure more than a million people, adding, “The time for dialogue is over. We gave peace a chance. The time for armed resistance has come.”

The manifesto was signed Andrew Berwick, an Anglicized version of his name. A former American government official briefed on the case said investigators believed the manifesto was Mr. Breivik’s work.

The manifesto, entitled “2083: A European Declaration of Independence,” equates liberalism and multiculturalism with “cultural Marxism,” which the document says is destroying European Christian civilization.

The document also describes a secret meeting in London in April 2002 to reconstitute the Knights Templar, a Crusader military order. It says the meeting was attended by nine representatives of eight European countries, evidently including Mr. Breivik, with an additional three members unable to attend, including a “European-American.”

The document does not name the attendees or say whether they were aware of Mr. Breivik’s planned attacks, though investigators presumably will now try to determine if the people exist and what their connection is to Mr. Breivik.

Thomas Hegghammer, a terrorism specialist at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment, said the manifesto bears an eerie resemblance to those of Osama bin Laden and other Al Qaeda leaders, though from a Christian rather than a Muslim point of view. Like Mr. Breivik’s manuscript, the major Qaeda declarations have detailed accounts of the Crusades, a pronounced sense of historical grievance and calls for apocalyptic warfare to defeat the religious and cultural enemy.

“It seems to be an attempt to mirror Al Qaeda, exactly in reverse,” Mr. Hegghammer said.

Mr. Breivik was also believed to have posted a video on Friday summarizing his arguments. In its closing moments, the video depicts Mr. Breivik in military uniform, holding assault weapons. Rarely has a mass murder suspect left so detailed an account of his activities. The manifesto describes in detail his purchase of chemicals, his sometimes ham-handed experiments making explosives and his first successful test detonation of a bomb in a remote location on June 13.

He intersperses the account of bomb-making with details of his television-watching, including the Eurovision music contest and the American police drama “The Shield.”

The manifesto ends with a chilling signoff: “I believe this will be my last entry. It is now Fri
July 22nd, 12.51.”

Indeed, the operation appeared to have been extremely well planned.

According to the police, Mr. Breivik first drew security services to central Oslo when he exploded a car bomb outside a 17-story government office building, killing at least seven people.

Then he took a public ferry to Utoya Island, where he carried out a remarkably meticulous attack on Norway’s current and future political elite. Dressed as a police officer, he announced that he had come to check on the security of the young people who were attending a political summer camp there, many of them the children of members of the governing Labor Party.

He gathered the campers together and for some 90 hellish minutes he coolly and methodically shot them, hunting down those who fled. At least 85 people, some as young as 16, were killed.

Time2WakeUp: An event, perhaps on the same level as 9-11, has now occurred on 7-22 in Norway.  Only this time it was not undertaken by a group of alleged Muslim extremists, but an alleged lone christian extremist (there is evidence that is not christian in the least bit, but rather has knights templar and masonic ties). What stands out to me is how in the past few years, there seems to be a picture being painted of muslims vs. christians, another era of crusades if you will. Just like after 9/11, our world went after Muslim terrorists, will our world go after christian terrorists now?

NOTES: Is Osama Bin Laden really dead?

This photo was revealed to be a fake
By now you've heard Bin Laden is dead. Here are a few coincidences that I think are interesting:
  1. The news comes around the beginning of election season.
  2. The news comes at a time when Obama's approval ratings have been at all-time lows.
  3. Bin Laden's body was quickly disposed of (due to muslim tradition) so now there isn't a body to have to deal with. There are also some who disagree that this was proper muslim practice.
  4. This gives credibility to the government to continuing the war on terror.
  5. Bin Laden's death was announced on the same day as Hitler's death was announced - May 1.  This also happens to be the anniversary of the day the Illuminati was formed.
  6. The news of his death occurred just days after the Obama Birth Certificate surfaced and people began questioning its validity.

DEVOTIONAL

Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God. For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that the Lord your God has given you. (Joshua 23:11-13)

In this passage, Joshua is basically giving his farewell address to the people of Israel. The statement that jumped out to me was Joshua's admonition to the people to love God and to not associate with and cling to the nations in the land and their culture. Joshua went on to say that if the Israelites disobeyed this admonition that God would allow these nations to be a trap and a snare to them and would ultimately lead to their removal from the land.

Applied to our life today, if we compromise, it's only a matter of time that the things we are compromising with will overtake us and weaken or even destroy our relationship with God.  How many things are in our life do we "turn back and cling to" rather than continuing to make God our first love? Thankfully, if we are his children we will experience discipline in these areas [Hebrews 12:6] until we learn are lesson and repent.  If we continue in our sin, God will give us over to those things and we will have no more hope [Romans 1].

NOTES: Police seize guns after Los Alamos standoff Ex-LANL physicist being held for psychiatric evaluation

High-powered weapons and ammunition were among the items seized from the home of a former Los Alamos National Laboratory physicist who has become increasingly paranoid and outspoken against the lab and the government.

Los Alamos police trying to serve a warrant arrested Richard Lee Morse, 75, outside his 1350 Bathtub Row home at 11:45 a.m. Thursday when "he just came out to throw some trash away" after nearly 19 hours, according to Los Alamos Capt. Randy Foster.

A search warrant executed Thursday on Morse's home netted the discovery of three guns — a .30-06 rifle, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm Beretta pistol — and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition, including 661 rounds for the powerful .30-06 rifle alone. As a condition of his release from jail for a pending criminal case, Morse was not allowed to own a gun.

"It's very concerning that somebody in that mental state would have these types of weapons — certainly the .30-06 is a formidable weapon and the 9 mm is a rapid-fire weapon that can be very dangerous," Sgt. DeWayne Williams told the Los Alamos Monitor on Friday. [Another opportunity for the media to report on the issue of mental health and gun control.]

Police said they also found nine cats in the home Thursday — including two dead ones [the same cats described below?] being stored in Morse's freezer, according to Lt. Jason Wardlow-Herrera.

"We were told [by who?] he was planning to use those weapons if we tried to take him, so we proceeded with great caution in serving this warrant," Foster said. "We didn't have reason to believe he was going to ever go out of the home to use these weapons, but when dealing with people we have reason to believe may have some mental instability, we have to proceed with that caution, and this ended as peacefully as could be expected given the circumstances."

Foster said police had gone to Morse's home at 5 p.m. Wednesday to serve him with an arrest warrant signed by Judge Stephen Pfeffer, charging Morse with failing to comply with the conditions of his electronic monitoring, according to police.

Morse, awaiting trial before Pfeffer on a charge of battery on a peace officer in Los Alamos in August, was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before that case could proceed, but a bed at the Las Vegas, N.M., hospital where that evaluation was to take place was not available until this week. [He hasn't even been officially diagnosed with a mental deficiency yet this article makes it appear that he has already.]

According to an affidavit for a search warrant filed in Los Alamos County Magistrate Court, Morse "said he would not go to Las Vegas," and police had information [from who?] that if they tried to detain him, Morse would shoot them.

Foster said nearly all of the department's 30-plus officers worked the standoff, and they received assistance from the New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque Police Department.

"Some of our officers were laying in snow embankments for about six hours near his house waiting for him to come out," Foster said.

Despite hours of communication between Morse and police over bullhorns, the telephone and even with a Police Department robot that was able to deliver a cell phone into the home, Morse, upon his arrest, asked, "Why we didn't just come in and get him, almost like he didn't know we were ever there," Foster said.

Morse in the past had high levels of government clearance as a weapons physicist who, among other projects, worked on development of the $128 million W76 submarine nuclear missile warhead in the 1970s.

Morse left the lab in 1976, and in recent years spoke out publicly after saying his internal protests were ignored about a design flaw with the warhead that would leave the United States at risk.

"We're vulnerable as hell," Morse said in a 2004 Associated Press article.

He also alleged that competition between LANL and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California led to weapons designers in Los Alamos cutting corners.

He argued the casing of the warhead was too thin.

More recently, Morse had become increasingly paranoid, telling The New Mexican that federal agents had him under surveillance and that security officers were holding his wife.

In 2008, Morse filed a complaint against Los Alamos County and the Los Alamos Police Department.

"Plaintiff (referring to himself) is concerned about leaving his house, possessions and pets unattended for long intervals as vandalism has occurred and one cat was severely brutalized on two separate incidents around the time of Plaintiff's arrest and beating in November 2006. Much more recently, while dining with friends, two of his cats were poisoned; one of them died. He is concerned that the local police, who are defendants in this case, will not protect his property adequately during his scheduled absence for hearings," Morse wrote in March 2009 in a court filing related to his lawsuit where he alleged police brutality, among other things.

Santa Fe attorney Aaron Boland, representing Morse for his pending criminal case before Pfeffer, did not return a call from The New Mexican on Friday afternoon, but acknowledge to the Monitor that his client was dealing with mental issues.

"Dealing with mental health can pose challenging issues," Boland told the newspaper. "This (standoff) could have been a dangerous situation, but fortunately cooler heads prevailed. I commend the Los Alamos Police Department, Chief (Wayne) Torpy and all those involved for their professionalism, patience and restraint — their actions enabled this event to end without any injuries."

The Monitor interviewed Morse in the Los Alamos County jail Thursday and reported the man seemed confused about the standoff.

"I'm a small cog that has known great men," he said. "Never mind me — you've got to get rid of this NNSA bunch otherwise this place is going to wash down the Rio (Grande)."

He added to the Monitor, "This is happening to me because I blew the whistle on the W-76."

Los Alamos police say they do not intend to charge Morse with any new charges stemming from this week's standoff, but will keep him incarcerated until his psychiatric evaluation.

"Unfortunately because this took so long, that bed that was available for him that started this whole thing has since been filled," Foster said.

NOTE:  These past few weeks we have heard countless reports on Jared Loughner, questioning his mental capacity and why he was able to buy a gun. Now here is a story about another guy who supposedly has mental issues who is stockpiling guns.  This is great proof that the government should crack down on gun ownership of those people who are mental, isn't it?  One thing that I find interesting is that the "crazy" guy in this story is an ex-Los Alamos National Laboratory Physicist. The LANL is one of the largest science and technology institutions in the world that conducts multidisciplinary research for fields such as national security, outer space, renewable energy, medicine, nanotechnology, and supercomputing. I find it hard that this brilliant guy just randomly went crazy.  In my opinion, he is either crazy due to something that happened while he was employed there or he knows something that the government doesn't want others to know.  Either way, there is more than meets the eye in this story.

NOTES: Are Aliens Among Us? Sort of, NASA Says

Alien life has been among us all along, according to new biological findings announced by NASA Thursday (12/02/10).

Research conducted by biochemist Dr. Felisa Wolfe-Simon from the U.S. Geological Survey has turned the quest for alien life on its ear, suggesting that phosphorous, carbon, and the other fundamental elements found in every living thing on Earth aren't the only signs of life. Wolfe-Simon explained the findings at a hotly anticipated NASA press conference on Thursday.

After a two-year study at California's Mono Lake, near Yosemite National Park, Wolfe-Simon found that a bug will grow in the presence of the toxic chemical arsenic when only slight traces of phosphorous are present. It's a radical finding, says molecular biologist Steven Benner, who is part of NASA's "Team Titan" and an expert on astrobiology -- forcing the space agency to redefine the quest for other life in the universe.

"When we're searching for alien life, if it's not a Ferengi from Star Trek, what would it be?" Benner asked FoxNews.com. In his estimation, we've always defined life as something that has the exact same chemistry as a life-form on Earth. The new discovery will likely change that equation, because it means the basic building blocks of DNA are not quite what we thought.

Benner, said the arsenic-loving organism at Mono Lake grew without high levels of the nutrient phosphate (although some phosphates were still present). Just as important, it could change how we look for alien life on other planets, especially on Saturn and the moons of Jupiter.

"It's a paradigm shift," says Dimitar Sasselov, an astrobiologist who leads the Origins of Life Initiative at Harvard University. "The possibility that Earth-life biochemistry is not universal is a transformational concept. It fills the search [for alien life] with optimism. NASA is moving in a good overall direction. What is needed is to take alternatives for life's chemistry to heart and fund research work better."

Arsenic is poisonous to nearly all forms of life on earth. Even small amounts of the poison become embedded in living tissue, causing liver failure and ultimately death -- in nearly everything BUT these bacteria.

However, as science fiction author Robert Sawyer told FoxNews.com, there could be even more profound implications. We have always looked for alien life that matches our biology, but now we have found a different life-form that uses arsenic in its basic DNA structure, he said.

Sawyer explained that NASA science probes have always looked in the most likely places we thought life could exist -- on Mars or Europa, a moon of Jupiter. There is an old joke, he says, about how someone lost a quarter in their garage, then looks out in the yard for it. A neighbor asks why they are looking there instead of in the garage; the light is better, he answers.

"We tend to use the tools we know and the places we know to look for alien life," Sawyer said, explaining that humans want to find a walking, crawling alien and not one that just has different DNA. (cf. NBC's The Event)
The change, he says, is that NASA will start looking for arsenic as well, and possibly other chemicals. This could mean new missions to Titan, which is known for having traces of arsenic. Another change could be the scientific equipment we send to space – probes might be retrofitted to search for arsenic.

Benner said the finding even impacts earlier research. Several years ago, when a Martian meteorite crash-landed on Earth, scientists examined it for the presence of phosphates. Now, it may be possible to re-visit some of the earlier findings. This hints at what experts call the "shadow biosphere" -- the existence of other life-forms, even on Earth, that have a radically different DNA structure.

"It's a huge breakthrough. It changes the probabilities for their being life on other planets," Sawyer told FoxNews.com. "If there is more than one recipe that makes life, then there are chances of rolling the dice in a chemical soup of all over the universe, and the chances of that chemical soup giving rise to life is much larger."

For NASA, the scientific discovery could help the agency acquire new funding, serving as a catalyst to convince Congress to green light for new missions to Mars or Titan.

In fact, the Internet buzz about finding alien life, as Sawyer noted, is partly due to how NASA has timed the announcement. A new Congress means new opportunities for scientific missions. He says the reality of the finding is somewhat of a joykill -- we have not found E.T. -- but there are still major implications for science and the search for extra-terrestrial life in our solar system and beyond.

Benner says the findings need further review -- there are questions about how much phosphorous is needed to sustain life.

"The next phase is to grow more of the stuff in a lab using a defined cultured, maybe cook up a broth that contains no phosphorous at all, look at this with a critical eye," he said.

However you view the announcement, the Lake Mono findings are profound, and the possibilities for finding life -- especially the primordial kind -- are now even greater.

CRITICISM

Scientists see fatal flaws in the NASA study of arsenic-based life.
[Source: Slate, December 7, 2010]

On Thursday, Dec. 2, Rosie Redfield sat down to read a new paper called "A Bacterium That Can Grow by Using Arsenic Instead of Phosphorus." Despite its innocuous title, the paper had great ambitions. Every living thing that scientists have ever studied uses phosphorus to build the backbone of its DNA. In the new paper, NASA-funded scientists described a microbe that could use arsenic instead. If the authors of the paper were right, we would have to expand our notions of what forms life can take.

Redfield, a microbiology professor at the University of British Columbia, had been hearing rumors about the papers for days beforehand. On Monday, NASA released a Sphinxlike press release: "NASA will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 2, to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life." Like a virulent strain of bacteria, speculation exploded over the next three days. "Did NASA Discover Life on One of Saturn's Moons?" asked Gawker, a Web site that does not often ask questions about astrobiology.

The truth was revealed on Thursday. At NASA's press conference, the scientists described their research, which was just then being posted on the Web site of the journal Science. They had not found life on one of Saturn's moons; instead, they had gone to the arsenic-laced waters of Mono Lake in California and isolated a strain of bacteria they dubbed GFAJ-1.

Back at the lab, they grew the bacteria in a broth of nutrients. When they gradually reduced the supply of phosphate (a molecule composed of one phosphorus atom and four oxygen atoms) and replaced it with arsenate (one arsenic and four oxygen atoms), the bacteria still managed to grow. The scientists examined the DNA of these hardy microorganisms and inferred that it contained arsenic.

As soon as Redfield started to read the paper, she was shocked. "I was outraged at how bad the science was," she told me.

Redfield blogged a scathing attack on Saturday. Over the weekend, a few other scientists took to the Internet as well. Was this merely a case of a few isolated cranks? To find out, I reached out to a dozen experts on Monday. Almost unanimously, they think the NASA scientists have failed to make their case. "It would be really cool if such a bug existed," said San Diego State University's Forest Rohwer, a microbiologist who looks for new species of bacteria and viruses in coral reefs. But, he added, "none of the arguments are very convincing on their own." That was about as positive as the critics could get. "This paper should not have been published," said Shelley Copley of the University of Colorado.

None of the scientists I spoke to ruled out the possibility that such weird bacteria might exist. Indeed, some of them were co-authors of a 2007 report for the National Academies of Sciences on alien life that called for research into, among other things, arsenic-based biology. But almost to a person, they felt that the NASA team had failed to take some basic precautions to avoid misleading results.

When the NASA scientists took the DNA out of the bacteria, for example, they ought to have taken extra steps to wash away any other kinds of molecules. Without these precautions, arsenic could have simply glommed to the DNA, like gum on a shoe. "It is pretty trivial to do a much better job," said Rohwer.

In fact, says Harvard microbiologist Alex Bradley, the NASA scientists unknowingly demonstrated the flaws in their own experiment. They immersed the DNA in water as they analyzed it, he points out. Arsenic compounds fall apart quickly in water, so if it really was in the microbe's genes, it should have broken into fragments, Bradley wrote Sunday in a guest post on the blog We, Beasties. But the DNA remained in large chunks—presumably because it was made of durable phosphate. Bradley got his Ph.D. under MIT professor Roger Summons, who co-authored the 2007 weird-life report. Summons backs his former student's critique.

But how could the bacteria be using phosphate when they weren't getting any in the lab? That was the point of the experiment, after all. It turns out the NASA scientists were feeding the bacteria salts which they freely admit were contaminated with a tiny amount of phosphate. It's possible, the critics argue, that the bacteria eked out a living on that scarce supply. As Bradley notes, the Sargasso Sea supports plenty of microbes while containing 300 times less phosphate than was present in the lab cultures.

"Low levels of phosphate in growth media, naive investigators and bad reviewers are the stories here," said Norman Pace of the University of Colorado, a pioneer of identifying exotic microbes by analyzing their DNA, who was another co-author on the weird-life report.

I asked two of the authors of the study if they wanted to respond to the criticism of their paper. Both politely declined by email.

"We cannot indiscriminately wade into a media forum for debate at this time," declared senior author Ronald Oremland of the U.S. Geological Survey. "If we are wrong, then other scientists should be motivated to reproduce our findings. If we are right (and I am strongly convinced that we are) our competitors will agree and help to advance our understanding of this phenomenon. I am eager for them to do so."

"Any discourse will have to be peer-reviewed in the same manner as our paper was, and go through a vetting process so that all discussion is properly moderated," wrote Felisa Wolfe-Simon of the NASA Astrobiology Institute. "The items you are presenting do not represent the proper way to engage in a scientific discourse and we will not respond in this manner."

While Redfield considers Wolfe-Simon's research "flim-flam," she thinks it's fine for the NASA scientists to hold off responding to their critics. She is working on a formal letter to Science detailing her objections. But Jonathan Eisen of UC-Davis doesn't let the scientists off so easily. "If they say they will not address the responses except in journals, that is absurd," he said. "They carried out science by press release and press conference. Whether they were right or not in their claims, they are now hypocritical if they say that the only response should be in the scientific literature."

Some scientists are left wondering why NASA made such a big deal over a paper with so many flaws. "I suspect that NASA may be so desperate for a positive story that they didn't look for any serious advice from DNA or even microbiology people," says John Roth of UC-Davis. The experience reminded some of another press conference NASA held in 1996. Scientists unveiled a meteorite from Mars in which they said there were microscopic fossils. A number of critics condemned the report (also published in Science) for making claims it couldn't back up. And today many scientists think that all of the alleged signs of life in the rocks could have just as easily been made on a lifeless planet.

The controversy over the Martian meteorite still sputters on today because they contain only a few alleged fossils, rather than living bacteria. There are only a limited number of tests that scientists can run on the rocks, and their results remain murky. Fortunately, that's not the case for GFAJ-1. Critics say that a few straightforward tests on the bacteria would show whether they really do have arsenic-based DNA once and for all. And the NASA scientists say they're ready to hand out GFAJ-1 to researchers who want to study it. This controversy may be burning brightly at the moment, but it probably won't burn for long.

TOPIC: Wikileaks: A genuine or pre-planned crisis?

The whole Wikileaks phenomenon is interesting to me.  The question in my mind is, "is this a genuine controversy or was this a plan hatched by the powers that be to create upheavel and chaos.  It is almost like these leaks have been made on purpose. Are the people behind these leaks trying to start a world war by turning all of these countries against each other? I don't think there is a way that, with all that is being said, there won't be countries that take these comments personally and decide to strike out against the U.S.  According to some reports, the riots in Tunisia were brought on by Wikileaks information.  I would think that with as powerful as the government seems they could have kept this information from coming out but they didn't which makes me think that we are experiencing a well-designed ploy to create planned chaos so that "order" (aka the New World Order) can be established.

WikiLeaks: 1 percent of diplomatic docs published
[Source: AP via MyWay News, January 23, 2010]

Nearly two months after WikiLeaks outraged the U.S. government by launching the release of a massive compendium of diplomatic documents, the secret-spilling website has published 2,658 U.S. State Department cables - just over 1 percent of its trove of 251,287 documents.

Here's a look at what the consequences of the cables' release has been so far, and what the future could hold for WikiLeaks.

---

IT'S LIFTED THE VEIL ON INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

WikiLeaks has given the world's public an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at U.S. diplomacy. Among the most eye-catching revelations were reports that Arab countries had lobbied for an attack on Iran, China had made plans for the collapse of its North Korean ally, and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton had ordered U.S. diplomats to gather the computer passwords, fingerprints and even DNA of their foreign counterparts.

Some of the most controversial cables dealt with a directive to harvest biometric information on a range of officials. U.S. diplomats have been forced repeatedly to deny spying on their counterparts - although none have specifically addressed the instructions to gather personal details, sensitive computer data, and even genetic material or iris scans.

Anthony Cordesman, an analyst for the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, cautioned that some cables were less explosive when taken in the context they were written. He noted that Arab belligerence toward Tehran has festered for years - and suggested the rhetoric was being ratcheted up at a time of high tensions over Iran's nuclear program.

As for the cables on scooping up fingerprints, frequent flyer numbers, and other personal information, Cordesman said that "there isn't a diplomatic service in the world that doesn't serve its intelligence community."

IT'S SHOWN HOW LEADERS LIE

Over and over again, the cables captured world leaders lying - to each other, to their allies, and to their own citizens.

Diplomacy "comes across as a scheming, duplicitous profession - which it kind of is," said Carne Ross, a former British diplomat who resigned over the Iraq war.

Ross said the most outrageous example of double-dealing he had seen so far was the 2009 cable that caught Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh sharing a joke about how another senior official had covered up a series of U.S. attacks by lying to parliament.

But there are other examples. One of the cables has Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's longtime opposition leader-turned-prime minister, telling Western diplomats that his calls for easing sanctions against Zimbabwe are for public consumption only. Another cable cites Israeli officials, who have often insisted their controversial blockade of the Gaza Strip is targeted only at their arch-foe Hamas, as freely acknowledging that the restrictions were in fact an effort to keep the Gazan economy teetering on the brink of collapse.

The cables are laced with cynicism. One quotes a former French prime minister as dismissing a fellow socialist politician as too honest for his own good. Meanwhile Qatar's prime minister, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, describes his country's apparently cordial relationship with neighboring Iran as one big charade.

"They lie to us, and we lie to them," Al-Thani is quoted as saying.

IT'S SHAKEN U.S. DIPLOMACY

Italy's Foreign Minister Franco Frattini drew considerable attention when he described the WikiLeaks release as the "September 11 of world diplomacy."

At the very least, the cables have angered some major world figures. Turkey's prime minister demanded that U.S. diplomats be punished for claiming that he had money stashed away in a collection of Swiss bank accounts; cables covering attempts to secure nuclear material in Pakistan drew outrage in a country where public hostility to the United States is already high; rivals such as Russia jumped on the cables to accuse the U.S. of arrogance and dishonesty.

Richard Dalton, the former British ambassador to Libya and now a fellow at London's Chatham House think tank, dismissed Frattini's prediction of a worldwide diplomatic meltdown, suggesting that things would eventually return to business as usual.

"It is - so far - a bump in the road," he said, although he noted longterm damage to U.S. diplomacy was still hard to gauge.

Even if the U.S. State Department rapidly recovers, individual officials still face serious damage to their careers. Officials have told The Associated Press that Ambassador Gene Cretz may lose his job as envoy to Tripoli over his descriptions of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's eccentricities.

Allied officials have been rattled by the releases as well: The German foreign minister's chief of staff took a leave of absence following the revelation that he was feeding information to Washington; Afghanistan's finance minister offered to resign after he was quoted as describing President Hamid Karzai as weak and paranoid; Britain's central banker also faced criticism after a cable caught him sharing his doubts about Prime Minister David Cameron's economic competency with the U.S. ambassador to London.

Singapore's Foreign Minister George Yeo may have been speaking for many across the world last month when he instructed officials to be less open when speaking with their American counterparts.

"The WikiLeaks disclosures have been disastrous for U.S. diplomacy," Yeo said.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Although only a small sliver of the entire trove of State Department documents has made it online, the secret memos have been held by The New York Times, Britain's The Guardian, Germany's Der Spiegel, and Spain's El Pais for weeks, if not months.

Recent cables have made news - one claimed that late Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua had a kidney transplant while he was still a state governor - but most haven't carried the same punch as earlier releases.

It isn't clear whether WikiLeaks or what it calls its "media partners" have gone through the documents in their entirety. The secret-spilling website did not return an e-mail seeking comment on its future plans, although its founder Julian Assange has repeatedly promised to speed the cables' release.

Whether or not the State Department cables have already yielded their most arresting secrets, WikiLeaks is still sitting on a huge archive of leaked data from nearly every country in the world - including, Assange has hinted, a massive trove of e-mails from Bank of America.

And even though his website is no longer accepting submissions, Assange said secrets were still making their way to him all the time. On Monday, a Swiss ex-banker - now under arrest for his interactions with WikiLeaks - handed Assange his latest set of secrets, data which he claimed carried details of tax evasion by some 2,000 prominent people.

Assange said the material could be online within weeks.

JOURNAL: Why all the Hate for Haiti?

If you have been keeping up on the current events in Haiti, then you know that it's been a very bad year for them.  Earlier this year in January, Haiti experienced a very destructive earthquakes (see headlines below).  Last month, they faced a cholera epidemic. This week it is the Tropical Storm Tomas that is wreaking havoc. So what is exactly is going on?  Some people believe that with all these bad luck, it may not be luck at all, it may be planned chaos.  So, being of a conspiratorial mindset, why would this planned chaos occur in Haiti.  In other words what does Haiti have to offer. I found a website that offers a few clues.

Haiti became a focus of interest for the great powers in the early twentieth century mainly because of the country's strategic location.
Washington's interest in Haiti arose chiefly because of the country's proximity to the Panama Canal and Central America. Haiti also controls the Windward Passage, a narrow body of water that could be easily closed, disrupting maritime traffic. In the nineteenth century, the United States considered establishing a naval base in Haiti. At about the time of World War I, the United States occupied Haiti along with a number of other countries in the Caribbean and Central America. Since the 1960s, Washington has viewed Haiti as an anticommunist bulwark, partly because of the country's proximity to Cuba.

Chavez says U.S. occupying Haiti in name of aid
[Source: Reuters, January 17, 2010]
The President of Venezuela has accused the U.S. of using the earthquake to occupy Haiti "undercover".  NOTE: This may seem a little far-fetched but some have claimed that the earthquake may have been the result of HAARP experimentation.  It has also been stated that these "types" of earthquakes always occur when there is or has been some sort of political event.  Interesting coincidence or is there more to meet the eye?
