DEVOTIONAL

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. "These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." (John 15:9-11)

As I was reading this passage I started to wonder how I could "abide" in his love.  As I continued reading, Jesus' words there was the answer in black and white - "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love."  And when you abide in His love His joy will be in us and our joy will be full.  So this begs the question, what are his commandments?  In verse 12 we read, "this is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." And the expression of this love for others can be summed up in verse 13, "greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends."

Therefore, as we sacrificially love others, we will be abiding in His love which, in turn, will give us joy!

JOURNAL: The politics of food

I recently had the chance to watch Food, Inc., a disturbing yet eye-opening documentary that allowed the viewer to find out where their food comes from (particularly beef, chicken, and pork) and how it is processed.  Now this was not a pro-vegetarian movie because it did offer alternatives to the meat that is processed by the major corporations today. Its purpose was to make people aware of the inhumane process in which our food is produced.  The documentary, in a round-about way, placed most of the blame on the rise of the fast-food market.  As fast-food joints (e.g. McDonald's) began to expand the need to supply them with meat was necessary and thus the modern-day corporate owned food market.  According to the documentary, there are only a handful of companies that own the lion's share of the market today. The documentary not only talked about the problem but they offered some solutions, with the main one being to stop buying from the corporations that run their businesses unethically and in so doing, divert the money to local farmers or businesses that run their company ethically, which would ultimately put these corporations out of business.

I believe that we should definitely look for other alternatives when it comes to buying our food but I think that there is more than just money at stake, there is power as well.  There is no doubt that food is a powerful commodity.  The U.N. has two big organizations dedicated to it - the Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization (WHO). In 1963, the Codex Alimentarius Commission was established to standardize food production and ensuring safety.  Obviously, this is a worthy goal however, it is put into doubt when you realize that it was the idea of a former Nazi Herman Schmitz, who came to the U.N. with this idea because he knew that food is power and he who controls the world's supply of food controlled the world.  I believe this idea is really at the heart of this whole food issue.  It's not about money as much as control.  There is proof that the things in our food supply is not only unnecessary but dangerous and deadly (e.g. flouride, aspartame, high-fructose, corn syrup).  These are meant to dull the population to put them at ease because when a person is at ease they are less likely to fight back and question the system.

Choosing healthy foods now called a mental disorder [Source: Natural News, June 29, 2010]:  It appears that the desire to eat healthy is now classified as a disease, Orthorexia Nervosa, and being pushed by the pyschiatric industry.

NOTE: Now I understand that there is always a balance to things, no extreme is good.  But in my mind it is now just a small step to the thought process that healthy eating is highly overrated.  Interestingly, this is great news for the junk food and GMO industries.  Revelation 18 talks about the kings and merchants of the world who control the masses through various means.  Is our food supply one of those means.  There have been studies that show the chemicals that are placed in our food work in such a way that they keep us lax and dumbed down as a society so that we are less of a threat to anyone in charge.
