JOURNAL: Why all the Hate for Haiti?

If you have been keeping up on the current events in Haiti, then you know that it's been a very bad year for them.  Earlier this year in January, Haiti experienced a very destructive earthquakes (see headlines below).  Last month, they faced a cholera epidemic. This week it is the Tropical Storm Tomas that is wreaking havoc. So what is exactly is going on?  Some people believe that with all these bad luck, it may not be luck at all, it may be planned chaos.  So, being of a conspiratorial mindset, why would this planned chaos occur in Haiti.  In other words what does Haiti have to offer. I found a website that offers a few clues.

Haiti became a focus of interest for the great powers in the early twentieth century mainly because of the country's strategic location.
Washington's interest in Haiti arose chiefly because of the country's proximity to the Panama Canal and Central America. Haiti also controls the Windward Passage, a narrow body of water that could be easily closed, disrupting maritime traffic. In the nineteenth century, the United States considered establishing a naval base in Haiti. At about the time of World War I, the United States occupied Haiti along with a number of other countries in the Caribbean and Central America. Since the 1960s, Washington has viewed Haiti as an anticommunist bulwark, partly because of the country's proximity to Cuba.

Chavez says U.S. occupying Haiti in name of aid

The President of Venezuela has accused the U.S. of using the earthquake to occupy Haiti "undercover".  NOTE: This may seem a little far-fetched but some have claimed that the earthquake may have been the result of HAARP experimentation.  It has also been stated that these "types" of earthquakes always occur when there is or has been some sort of political event.  Interesting coincidence or is there more to meet the eye?
