Examiner 05-21-2009: Phoenix UFO sighting is identified

Look up in the sky, it's not a bird, it's not a plane, and it's definitely not Superman...so what is it? Well, that depends on who you ask.

On Monday, May 18, 2009, residents of many cities across Arizona were trying to figure out what they were seeing in the sky. This unidentified flying, or should I say floating, object was eventually identified as a 4,000-pound NASA research balloon being used to measure gamma-ray emissions. It was launched from Fort Sumter, New Mexico on Sunday morning and landed in Kingman, Arizona on Monday evening.

Read the article here.

Although this particular UFO mystery has been solved, there are those who still believe that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Monday's sighting (similar to the lady I saw being interviewed on the local news the night of the event), whatever your opinion may be about Monday's UFO sighting, it pales in comparison to the Phoenix Lights phenomenon that occurred 12 years ago; it also adds to the growing number of UFO sightings in Arizona according to the local Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) in Arizona.
Whatever your beliefs about UFOs, whether they come from the outer-reaches of the galaxy or that they are just a figment of a wild imagination, one thing is for sure - these "sightings" will continue to occur and increase, not only in Arizona, but around the world. How do I know this? Well, in the Bible, Jesus, speaking of the future, states that "...there will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven" (Luke 21:11). I'm sure most of us could agree that UFO sightings can be somewhat "fearful events", especially for those who have claimed to be abducted by them, but we could also classify them as "great signs from heaven" along with other signs such as wild weather patterns or astronomical anomalies.

If we take a look at the original language of the text, which is Greek, we see that the Greek word for "signs" is semeion (say-mi'-on) which can be translated miracle or wonder. Wouldn't it indeed be a "miracle" of sorts, if the government declassified information regarding alien intelligence or if we were visited by an alien race?

As a Christian I must say for the record that I don't necessarily believe in the aliens that have been made so popular by today's culture, but I do believe that they are of a supernatural nature. I also believe that they will continue to play an increasing role in our society, especially as we become a more globalized community...but more on that later. In the meantime keep looking up because you never know what you may see!
