Examiner 06-15-2009: Meteorite hits German boy

The sky was literally falling in Essen, Germany, at least it was for one 14-year old German teenager. Last Friday, a pea-sized meteorite allegedly fell from the sky creating a foot long crater in the ground, but not before it hit the boy's hand leaving him with a three-inch long scar! He claims that one moment he saw a "ball of light" falling out of the sky and the next moment he felt a pain in his hand and heard a huge thunder-like bang. Scientists have studied the extraterrestial pebble and concluded that it was definitely a rock from outerspace. Thankfully, the boy was able to walk away from the incident with only a scar on his hand but a pretty "far-out" story to tell his friends at school. Check out the full story here.

Now whether you believe the validity of this story or not is up to you, but it did get me thinking about what the Bible says about falling space objects in the "last days". In Revelation chapter 8 we are introduced to what's referred to as the Seven Trumpet Judgments, which are the second set of God's judgments upon the world, the first being the Seven Seals and the last being the Seven Bowls of Wrath. The First Four Trumpet Judgments bring ecological devastation by and of heavenly bodies (i.e., comets, asteroids, sun, moon, and stars). The Second Trumpet Judgment in particular appears to be an asteroid. In Revelation 8:8-9 we read, "The second angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had life, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed [emphasis added]." Now as far-fetched as this may sound, there was actually a real concern of an asteroid hitting this planet a little over a decade ago. In 1997, Scientists warned that an asteroid, aptly nicknamed the "Halloween Asteroid", would hit earth in October of 2028. Thankfully though, in 2002, researchers were able to breathe a sigh of relief when they discovered that the asteroid would not hit earth but it would still come close.

For more information read the NASA  article.

Now, if we know that there is an asteroid headed our way in 2028, it is not too hard to believe, that in our solar system filled with so much space debris and "renegade rocks", that there are other asteroids that we don't know about that could bring devastation to the earth in the future; and according to the Bible, it's only a matter of time before we experience the destruction of an asteroid impact. Are you ready?
